How much do GAF shingle roof installation cost?
Paying top dollar for shingles doesn’t guarantee you’re going to get the best. Of course, going with shingles sold at bargain basement prices is a risky move that you should avoid. At VIS Exterior, we’ve got years of experience working with many types of shingles from different manufacturers, which is why we know GAF is the best shingle for the money.
And rather than keep the final price of a project a mystery, let’s jump into some numbers that will give you a better idea of what your roof replacement will cost:
The average GAF shingles cost $3.30 per 4.5 square feet. This includes the material and labor. The most popular GAF shingles are Timberline HD, which on a 2,000 square foot ranch style home costs between $7,800 to $8,800. The more economical 3-Tab shingles should cost no more than $7,700. If you go for the premium Designer line of shingles, costs can be as much as $12,500 on a 2,000 square foot ranch style home.
Several factors go into how much it will cost, but prices are mostly impacted by location and difficulty of installation.

Given these numbers, a 2,000 square foot roof installation project will total between $6,800 and $10,000.
GAF Designer shingles cost
Designer shingles offer a premium look that really appeals to many homeowners with flexibility in their budget. They cost $1.50 to $3 per square foot. The labor cost on Designer shingles runs between $3.50 and $4.50. A typical 2,000 square foot roof installation project will cost between $10,000 and $15,000.
Another cost to factor in is related to removing old roofing systems. If your new roof can’t be installed atop the old one, there will be a fee of $1 to $4 per square foot to remove the and dispose of the old materials.
There are other costs, such as permits, which must also be taken into account and will vary depending on your city or township. And finally, to get a better idea of what your project will cost, consider the pitch of your roof. If it is super steep, that makes it more difficult for roofers to install shingles and other aspects of the roofing system, which will drive the cost more toward the maximum. Other aspects, such as valleys, dormers, skylights and other architectural elements will also have to be worked around, which will drive up labor costs.
