This sizable brick and stone home with an attached three-car garage had an old roof that had begun to leak. In some situations on a house this large (4,400 square feet), some parts of the roof will begin to fail years before the entire roof begins showing signs of failing. This can be due to a number of environmental situations (falling tree limbs, wind/debris exposure, etc.), so it sometimes makes sense to make repairs and revisit a full replacement later. However, rather than risk inconsistencies in the appearance of the roof or if a complete replacement is not that far off, it makes aesthetic and fiscal sense to take on a full replacement rather than just repair or replace a section.
For this Hinsdale home, various areas of the roof were showing signs of failure, mostly due to leaks, so the decision was made to do a complete replacement.
We chose Owens Corning Duration Architectural shingles in the brownwood color, which while being a similar tone to the other exterior elements of the home, provided an appealing aesthetic. Choosing a dissimilar shingle color on such a large home would be too overpowering. Furthermore, we chose a tan color for the cedar siding that went around the dormers.
